How can i change the picker from radio box to a check box or vice versa.

I think if you switch the launching ModelLinkField to "exact-multi" it may do this.

multiSelectMode field in the report can be used to change cehck box to radio or vice versa

Ah, that's a good answer for Report filters. My answer would be for pages where you're creating the ModelLinkField in javascript.
